Hommocks Middle School

Hommocks Middle School

Design Architect / Architect of Record: Peter Gisolfi Associates with Project Manager Christopher Spencer. New fine arts building addition consisting of a 600 seat theater/ concert hall, gallery space, art, music classrooms and planetarium. Gut renovation of existing middle school classrooms and administration offices. The project encompassed a large range of programmatic requirements. Part of the architects role was to develop a new concept in social curriculum for the school. This was achieved by creating “houses” where students were grouped into four zones. Each “house” combined an administrative office, computer center, a central gathering space and classrooms. The addition was the fourth “house”, creating a multi-disciplinary liberal and fine arts wing. Working closely with the school board and local community groups, the project was delivered 1.3 million under budget.
